Choral Conductor Scholarships


The NBCF provides two scholarships for New Brunswick choral conductors to assist them to pursue professioanl development opportunities. 

These scholarships are made possible by a gift to the NBCF by the late Lynn Duncan of Saint John. 

The current scholarships are $300 each and are for professional development opportunities in 2025 and 2026. By the terms of the gift, at least one scholarship must be presented to a rural conductor.

1. A qualified New Brunswick rural conductor is anyone who: 

  • Is 19 years of age or older

  • Is living or conducting in a rural community or area of New Brunswick

  • Possesses at least one of the following qualifications:

    • Has been conducting a choir in a voluntary or professional capacity in a church, school or community for at least two years.

    • Has passed such tests or examinations and has satisfied such conditions as to their qualifications as a choral conductor as is satisfactory to a music school and the NBCF Board of Directors.

    • Has a degree or diploma equivalent to that of a teaching associateship or licentiate from a school of music, conservatory, or university, satisfactory to the NBCF Board of Directors.


2. A qualified New Brunswick conductor, rural or not, is anyone who:

  • Is 19 years of age or older 

  • Is living or conducting in New Brunswick

  • Possesses at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Has been conducting a choir in a professional (i.e not voluntary) capacity in a church, school, or community for at least two years. 

  • Has passed such tests or examinations and has satisfied such conditions as to their qualifications as a choral conductor as is satisfactory to a music school and the NBCF Board of Directors. 

  • Has a degree or diploma equivalent to that of a teaching associateship or licentiate from a school of music, conservatory, or university, satisfactory to the NBCF Board of Directors. 


Applicants should submit two references and a brief proposal, of approximately 200 words, outlining their qualifications and the professional development opportunity that they wish to pursue.
